On of the joys of using my new-ish iMac is the software. When I bought Elemebts 6 for the Mac it came with Adobe Bridge CS3. This is seriously useful for reviewing and ordering my many photos. While looking for something else; of course, I found the photo below, taken on an official visit to Mauritius from the beach of the hotel.
Even the official business went well!
Part of my current activities is researching the family history. I have inherited a lot of material including several albums of postcards, most sent to my father when he was little, from 1910 onward. A lot are rather over-the-top sentimental for my taste but some are of interest from a historic point of view. I am putting them on Flickr gradually; here is a sample!
Now recovering from a walk up Mt Mitchell in the Main Range National Park. Very nice it was too even though the views were somewhat obscured by the cloud and general dampness. Lots to see including three different species of snake and a number of lizards. Some butterflies, example below not taken on the trip I will admit.
This is a Lesser Wanderer; a close relative of the Monarch butterfly which was about too.
There were a number of robber-flies about as expected; the one below was in the garden at home but i liked the stance!
Looks comfortable somehow!
I am getting used to my new computer having changed from a PC to an iMac with a 24in screen. This can only be described as a splendid machine; very quiet and very well thought out; using a lot less room for a lot more facility.
I do have to get used to a somewhant different way of doing things but at least I can go on using my favourite Firefox browser and Thunderbird email client while transferring all my hard won settings and contacts!
Noy only that but I can still run my windows based genealogy software in an XP virtual machine, and be able to swap files seamlessly between the two operating systems software.
I might even try adding a Linux virtual machine too!
These birds, for those not in earshot; are cuckoos and summer visitors here in Stanthorpe. The males call incessantly from very early in the morning and annoy some people immensely. In spite of that they are quite difficult to get pictures of as they hide in tree canopies. After months of trying I found one taking the morning sun and calling
